New Book: Plant Tribe – Living Happily Ever After with Plants

The word is out: We are happy to announce our brand new book “PLANT TRIBE – Living happily ever after with Plants”. Our new book PLANT TRIBE hit the stores on March 17th, 2020. With PLANT TRIBE we invited the global tribe of plant loving people into our 240-pages book. We traveled through the US, Brazil and Europe to bring inspiring people and their emotional and personal plant stories to all of you.

With PLANT TRIBE we are going one step further: After our first book Urban Jungle, we are now delving deeper into the many ways that nurturing plants help nurture the soul, with inspiring advice for using plants to increase energy, creativity, and well-being, and to attract love and prosperity into the home.

The book PLANT TRIBE guides the reader through five highly emotional chapters and a practical room-by-room plant guide: “Love your Plants” is all about the importance of our emotional connection to plants: We look into ways how plants teach us self-care and how we can bond with plants. Additionally, we have a closer look on living with pets and plants, both of whom we love dearly.

“Good Energy with Plants” sheds a light on how we can raise the level of positive vibes in our homes with the help of plants and crystals, how we can purify the home with plants and how to optimally place plants in our home for a better energy flow.

In “Happiness with Plants” we focus on hands-on tips to make your plants and your life happier: We look at how to keep your green buddies happy and healthy, we suggest creative plant care routines, we speak of botanical joy, growing your own plants and sharing the happiness.

“Well-being with Plants” puts a focus on plant ideas for your mind, body, and soul. Get ready for some practical advice on slow living with plants and horticultural therapy!

“Get creative with Plants” highlights the potential of plants to boost our creativity and how plants drive a business. Moreover, we share creative ideas how to dress your plants, start creative plant projects, and execute simple plant styling tricks at home.

Last but not least, a handy room-by-room plant guide helps you select the ideal plant for every room of your home.

Every chapter is beautifully illustrated with photographies by our friend Jules Villbrandt who joined us on our global plant trip. 17 home stories from around the world will give you inspiring peeks into beautifully styled, creative, plant-filled and above all real homes of the global plant tribe. Megan George is a pretty talented lady: She is a social media marketer, a plant lover, an entrepreneur and a fantastic terrarium artist. She combined her professional knowledge and her passion for plants to found The Zen Succulent, a modern terrarium and crafts small business with fans and customers spanning from the United States over Europe all the way to Australia. And as if this was not enough, she also published her first book: Modern Terrarium Studio. As fellow plant lovers and Urban Jungle Bloggers we could not wait to get our fingers on it and review it here for you!

Modern Terrarium is not just a book to get inspired – it is a hands-on guide to create your very own terrarium designs. Megan structured her book in a very helpful and practical way: Going from tools and materials over various containers, decor elements to her top 25 plants to use in your terrariums. She also shares plant care tips for cacti, succulents and air plants in terrariums – super helpful if you wonder how to keep your terrarium healthy and happy.

The book’s main section however will get you itching for creativity and your own DIY terrarium. Megan presents 25 easy-to-make terrariums and living landscapes with evocative names such as ‘A Vibrant Shore’, ‘Cascading Rock Collection’ or ‘The Star in a Jar’. Just flipping through the book makes you want to get started right away – I feel very inspired to create the ‘Cascading Rock Collection’ soon. I am now hunting for a nice rock!

As Urban Jungle Bloggers few of us will have a proper garden shed. But we can dream of one, right? Many of us have creative corners at home, workplaces where we get new ideas, where we style and decorate. The new book ‘Shed Decor’ by Sally Coulthard is another title you should add to your interior loving (and plant loving) library – no matter whether you have a garden shed or not.

The book’s subtitle reads: How to decorate and furnish your favorite garden room. Some of you might be lucky enough to have a garden room, others will dream of a garden room when reading this book (if you don’t dream of one already). The book gives inspiration and ideas how to decorate and furnish outdoor rooms and garden sheds to create beautiful and useable living or work spaces.

The book is structured in two parts – the first showcases various shed decor styles while the second deals with shed decor basics. Each style section is accompanied by an ‘Essentials’ section with shopping tips to easily recreate the style in your own shed and case studies to give you a real-life idea. The shed decor basics part features all elements of interior styling spanning from fabrics, flooring, walls, furniture and more.

With Valentine’s Day coming up in a few weeks, it sounds like a good idea to focus on the true relationship with our green friends. Because when you think of it, the relationship with your plant barely differs from the relationship with loved ones. The more time and love you give them, the better they thrive and the more leafy love you get in return. But how? Caring for plants can be very rewarding, but something we just need a little extra help. And that’s where this book comes in! Me & My Plant by Dutch publisher Snor, gives us the secret to a blossoming relationship with our plant.

In six chapters, the Me & My Plant covers the six phases that a love relationship usually goes through: from falling in love to growing old together. After the first butterflies, we learn how to find the right spot and pot for our green friend and the effect that green spaces have on people. Of course, we don’t live for our plants, we live with our plants and we sometimes need some time for ourselves. In the third chapter we find some very useful holiday survival tips and some geeky tools from around the web to keep track of our plants.

Chapter 4 is a fun one: it’s called New Life, which means propagation, spoiling your plant and some groovy playlists for your plants! Did you know that some plants also absorb noise? Or that there are actual Plant Whisperers? The last chapter is the most poetic one: After being together for so many years, nothing can drive you apart or make you disheartened. Side by side, you battle on – because even though things don’t go as smoothly as before, the love still remains. And if it really is over then at least there’s always the book full of memories.

Overall, Me and My Plant is very complete guidebook with lots of hands-on tips to improve your life with plants. We love the quirky illustrations (by Maaike Kuiper) and the modern twist on subjects that we can find in all traditional botanical books, like watering, propagation and repotting. It’s the perfect book for any Urban Jungle Blogger, whether you want to find out which plant would best fit your lifestyle or want to learn more about what plants actually do for you.
