Shopping for plant accessories can sometimes be a difficult task. If you are looking for something more individual, something vintage, something designy you might realize that the local garden center and some small plant shops do not have what you are looking for. We also often get asked where we find our plant pots, home decor items and more. And the answer is quite often the same: Etsy. And to celebrate Etsy’s latest campaign #EtsyMeetsNL where Dutch creatives are in the focus, we have teamed up with them and we are sharing our favorite Etsy shops from the Netherlands and beyond. Of course most of them are suited for real plant lovers like us!

Etsy is a perfect source for design shopping whatever your taste and interior style is – from vintage to contemporary and modern. Judith’s home brims with strong and vibrant colours and is infused with a vibrant mix of modern and retro design objects. Plants thrive in the light-filled French home and so it was clear that Judith scored some amazing pieces that complement her style. Her favourite finds include a series of ceramic plant pots from Barcelona based Maevo Studio and Jenni Oh Crafts from Rome.

Did you know you can even buy real plants on Etsy? Of course shipping is regulated in certain countries, but you can find some fine cacti and succulents in the French Etsy shop of The Cactus Corner Shop. The Euphobia lacta cristata, Euphorbia inermis and the Opuntia zebrina are cute and healthy and a welcome addition to Judith’s plantgang:

Below you can see some speckled details of the Maevo Studio plant pot in the back and a succulent pot from Green Monsters in the front. The pots from their Palm Springs collection come with a matching draining tray with a hint of color in Aurora, Dune or Mint. They’re very pretty and practical at the same time.

Our eyes are always peeled for products with a botanical vibe, like this fantastic L’Ambitieux mobile from French brand VOLTA Paris. The shape of the blades of this decorative hanging mobile is inspired by Eucalyptus petals! It’s mesmerizing to look at and adds a botanical touch to a room without adding any plants. All VOLTA Paris mobiles are made by hand in Paris from recycled French materials.

Igor’s home on the other hand is a collected home with a distinct vintage vibe and bohemian atmosphere. Mid-century design classic live side-by-side with collected pieces, souvenirs from his many travels, handmade ceramics, ethnic textiles and lush plants. Scoring vintage items on Etsy was Igor’s quest. For his plants he opted for vintage plant pots found at the Dutch Etsy shop ‘House of C’. This shops features one-of-a-kind vintage objects as well as handmade items from around the world. Additionally to the plant pots Igor opted for a woven basket from Zimbabwe and a vintage wooden fruit bowl.

Not necessarily plant related, but Igor also found a vintage Moroccan pouf from Fez in the Etsy shop ‘Essence of Morocco’. A perfect accomplishment to the vintage plant pots and the kilim rug and other ethnic home textiles in his home. Coziness is the key word in this home!

A plantshelfie with the FENCY from Tolhuijs

Urban Jungle Bloggers - Fency Tolhuijs plantshelfie

It’s one of our favorite plant styling ideas: the plantshelfie. The plantshelfie is a real Urban Jungle Bloggers classic and has been the monthly topic not once, but even twice before. Bloggers from all over the world joined in and styled their shelfie with plants in their own specific way. From a simple ledge, to a String shelfie or a bookcase: the fun of a nice plantshelfie lays in the unlimited styling opportunities. Personal photos, travel souvenirs, art, trinkets, sculptures, gems, decor objects… and at least one plant.

Urban Jungle Bloggers - Fency Tolhuijs plantshelfie

Recently we were approached by Tolhuijs Design because they wanted to introduce us to their latest design: the FENCY. Before watching into the details, we thought: plantshelfie! But the FENCY is more than just a shelf system:  it is a design object with a story: all materials from the grid structure and the wooden shelves are so called: waste upgrading. The grid structure is made of sturdy festival fences. They are upcycled: cleaned, stripped, cut into the right dimensions, polished and powder coated in white, black or a beautiful mint green Urban Jungle Bloggers colour. All of this work isn’t done by regular carpenters but by people in prisons and social work places. Working helps to give these people a purpose and responsibility in their daily lives which contributes to a better society. FENCY is social responsible!

Urban Jungle Bloggers - Fency Tolhuijs plantshelfie

The wooden shelves of the FENCY are made from pressed wooden pallets and can be attached to the grid with 2 simple hooks. These allow you to place them exactly where you like them: on top, a bit more to the left or to the right. Very versatile and so much fun to play around with! And if your plants (or your collection of props) grow bigger, simply adjust the position of the shelves.

Urban Jungle Bloggers - Fency Tolhuijs plantshelfie

Another cool idea would be to use parts of the FENCY as a trellis for crawling or climbing plants, like Devil’s ivy (pothos), Hedera (ivy), and Passiflora.

Urban Jungle Bloggers - Fency Tolhuijs plantshelfie

The FENCY comes in different shapes and sizes: it is a cool wall structure to organize kitchen utensils or to keep your work tools at hand in the home office. Use it to display your favorite clothes in your bedroom or artwork in the living room. We couldn’t help ourselves and turned it into a plant display and included our Urban Jungle book:

Single, double, triple or quatro shelves from pressed wooden pallets can be used to display a group or one singular plant, like the Aloë below:

We have a little bonus for you, if you wish to order your own FENCY: until December 19th 2016 you get 25% off if you use the code “urbanjungleblog”. Go ahead, get yourself a FENCY and happy plant styling!

Teaming up with Urban Outfitters felt almost natural to us. We made it our mutual mission to add a green spin to our cosy winter interior stylings. And we both tackled the task on two ends – in France and in Germany.

Holmegaard’s New Botanical Glassware

Holmegaard Design Gaia via Urban Jungle Bloggers

April was fully dedicated to our topic ‘Plants & Glass’. The idea was to show the translucent beauty of glass vesels for plants, cuttings, offshoots and other botanics. Our Urban Jungle Bloggers community was creative and fabulous as always – we have seen a plethora of beautiful plant stylings using glass vessels of all kinds. This month we have also teamed up with a special brand to highlight the beauty of plants and glass: Holmegaard, the Danish glassware brand and purveyor of glassware to the royal court in Denmark. They have recently launched a collection fo new and beautiful glass vessels dedicated to plants and botanics.

Holmegaard Design Gaia via Urban Jungle Bloggers

The brand new Gaia plant glasses designed by Aric Snee for Holmegaard cater to the growing urban gardening and urban jungle trend in metropolises. These beautifully designed glass vessels remind us a bit of traditional sand glasses. They combine a glossy and clear finishing on the upper half with a sleek, matte finishing on the lower part. The Gaia planters use the simple self-watering system with a little rope and knot to water the plant regularly – but only as much as the plant requires. These vessels are not only great for houseplants which love regular watering, but also for kitchen herbs. Think of that basil pot you keep buying at the supermarket and it wilts like within a few days. That problem is solved with Gaia. And we need not mention how stylish it looks in design-savvy homes. Win-win!

Holmegaard Design styled by 23qm StilHolmegaard Design styled by Eat Blog LoveHolmegaard Design styled by Happy Interior BlogHolmegaard Design styled by JOELIX.comAnother beautiful glass vessel for plants is the hanging vase named ‘Design with Light’ by Maria Berntsen for Holmegaard. This hanging pot has a strong Scandinavian design DNA with its light and airy look of a glass vessel fixed by a rustic natural leather strap – hung on the wall or from the ceiling this makes a great green statement for Scandinavian inspired interiors. Here again plants which love more watering and moist soil will be an ideal choice.

But Holmegaard shows us that this is definitely an option well worth considering – especially with beautiful solutions like the Gaia range that combine a smart self-watering systems with a beautiful design. All made of glass.
