International Plant Appreciation Day with Evrgreen + giveaway

Evrgreen Tillandsia airplants + giveawayDid you know that today is the “International Plant Appreciation Day”? Well as real plant lovers you might celebrate that day everyday just like us. But it is nice to highlight our green friends on a special day like today. And to make the celebration even more special for you, dear Urban Jungle Bloggers, we have teamed up with Evrgreen, a Cologne based plant webshop, founded by two young guys, Jan and Philip, who have decided to bring more happy greens into the homes of their clients.

Evrgreen Tillandsia airplants + giveaway

To celebrate the ‘International Plant Appreciation Day’ together with Evrgreen and you all, we have opted for a pretty quirky plant that regularly gains your interest on Urban Jungle Bloggers: the Tillandsia or airplant. This is a genus of more than 700 species of blooming plants from Central and South America and bordering regions. They belong to the family of Bromeliaceae and most of them are epiphytes, that means they grow without soil by being attached to other plants. These quirky fellows have also become very popular houseplants for their unique looks and their minimal requirements regarding plant care: no soil needed, no plant pots needed, just air, light and some regular misting or a thorough bath in water!

Ivy Muse Homebody Collection

Ivy Muse Homebody collection via Urban Jungle Bloggers

We Urban Jungle Bloggers truly believe in the art of plants and plant stands. First and foremost we love plants for their beneficial influence on better and healthier living in our homes. But we also love plants and the endless variety of plant stands for their decorative impact on interior styling. And some brands have gone even the extra mile and created plant stands that – in combination with beautiful houseplants – can even be considered art for the home. Ivy Muse, a botanical wares studio based in Melbourne, Australia, is one of them.

Sure, we have absolutely nothing against a happy plant in a simple terra-cotta pot sitting on your windowsill. But for those looking for a more sophisticated and more designy plant display, Ivy Muse has lots to offer. Their latest Homebody Collection is one example of an artful approach when it comes to plant stands. The simple lines delineate geometric shapes and play with size and height for that extra eye-catching effect.

Design House Stockholm’s New Greenhouse

greenhouse, Design House Stockholm

Bringing the nature indoors can be as easy as putting a houseplant into your living room. You can also put a few houseplants in every room for that matter. But sometimes people prefer to have a more elaborate approach on greens.

greenhouse, Design House Stockholmgreenhouse, Design House Stockholm

Greenhouses are a great way to add nature into your home with a designated place and design. There are many greenhouses on the market but many of them resemble each other. Now the famous Design House Stockholm has launched a new greenhouse in collaboration with the Thai design studio Atelier 2+ and we like it a lot!

This greenhouse is a design object that combines simplicity with refined structures and lines. It blends natural materials with great craftsmanship and creates a home in the home for your greens. It’s simple and natural appearance refers to the Scandinavian design tradition even though it is the work of a Thai design duo. But then again, design has no nationality, does it?

Urban-Jungle-Bloggers-Coloring-Leafs1-Jessie-Kanelos-Weiner

What’s more relaxing than tending to our plants? Not much we would say 😉 But we found something that comes close in terms of relaxing, clearing the mind and having fun: coloring! In the past few years we have seen a new phenomenon in bookshops around the world, coloring books for adults. And today we get to introduce you to a new title that’s coming out today(!) by illustrator Jessie Kanelos Weiner called: “Edible Paradise: A Coloring Book of Seasonal Fruits and Vegetables“. It reintroduces nature and seasonal eating in a really fun and very approachable way and is a small gesture for greener living in the home and kitchen.

And because we like fruits and veggies, but love plants, Jessie created two exclusive designs just for us Urban Jungle Bloggers! You can download them by clicking on the images.

Which planty illustration is your favorite? And if you like, tag us with the result of your coloring magic on Instagram or Twitter. We’d love to see!

Urban-Jungle-Bloggers-Coloring-Book2-Jessie-Kanelos-Weiner“A delightful coloring book that celebrates the magnificent beauty of the edible plant kingdom. This beautiful, artfully illustrated coloring book is an enchanting journey of discovering the seasonal delicacies found in forests, fields, gardens, and urban farmer’s markets. The user will get lost in the intricate hypnotizing details of delectable images of strawberry patches; bouquets of fresh herbs; beehives and honeybees; fall harvest baskets and nuts rolling on the forest floor. This tactile and creative activity book encourages participants to turn off their screens and de-stress, and perhaps inspires them to take out their gardening gloves to plant some radishes or to take a trip to the farmer’s market. This charming, elegantly designed volume of illustrations—great for such mediums as colored pencil, pen and ink, and watercolor—is a treat for the senses, guaranteed to inspire food lovers, nature enthusiasts, gardeners, and parents wanting to encourage their children to appreciate the wonders of nature’s edible bounty”.

And if you’re totally hooked on coloring now, you can purchase Jessie’s new coloring book “Edible Paradise: A Coloring Book of Seasonal Fruits and Vegetables” on Amazon and follow Jessie on Instagram or visit her website for more! Thank you Jessie for the plant-love!

De Balkonie: balcony decoration store in Amsterdam

Urban Jungle Bloggers: De Balkonie Amsterdam

While we are still in the middle of winter here in Europe, we can’t wait for our plants to wake up from hibernation. We’re literally dreaming of lush green jungles bathing in sunlight and sipping our morning coffee on the balcony, surrounded by our green friends. Speaking of balconies: do you know this cool store in Amsterdam, that specializes in everything for a green balcony? At De Balkonie you will find a nice selection of balcony and indoor plants, as well as furniture and accessories that fit the specific sizes and conditions of urban balconies. And the team behind De Balkonie also offers bespoke styling and plant care consulting to keep your balcony happy and healthy!

Urban Jungle Bloggers: De Balkonie Amsterdam

For the design of the store, Studio Mokum, the design studio that designed De Balkonie, tried to find a casual look and feel that would match the personality of the couple that own the store. The beautiful sand color terrazzo floor was restored and the walls were painted in a soft grey. Copper green vintage shelving units on the right side display planty accessories. Two alcoves on the right show the furniture in different balcony settings on a wooden podium made of small pallets. The islands in the middle of the store are also made of pallets and display plants and promotions.

Urban Jungle Bloggers: De Balkonie Amsterdam

The identity of De Balkonie is built around the illustrations Peter-Paul Rauwerda, a friend of the owners. Peter-Paul created a series of plant illustrations in elaborate pen drawings which are used in the logo and other communication items of the store.
